During the March 2020 lockdown, people with mental health conditions were allowed to go outside, but this caused conflict with neighbours watching from their windows.
The challenge
The stigma faced by people who went outside during lockdown for mental health reasons. We created an awareness campaign to show the “balcony police” that not everyone out on the street during quarantine is breaking the law, and that if they go out it is for a reason: in this case, living with a mental disorder.

To get this message across we created an illustrated universe reminiscent of the shadow and puppet theatre of the island of Java, where mythological beings, monsters and demons were performed. It gave our story drama and conveyed the reality of people who have suffered this stigma, symbolised by a hat that recalls the sanbenito of the Inquisition.
#deixameixir is a cry of need, for help and understanding: a need for a brief moment of freedom, a little while that can give LIFE and offer hope in a world even more closed than usual for these people, whose reality is much harder than everyone else’s.
#deixameixir has to become a cry, the slogan that carries the cause, with no need to be “marked” by ribbons, labels or words.
